Briarwood was originally a church plant from the Pulaski County Baptist Association in care of the Richland First Baptist Church in 1987. In the 32 years since it was first formed, the church was able to procure land, erect a building, and procure their own pastor, finally being recognized as their own separate church body.
In the intervening years, several pastors have come and gone, and the church has transitioned to a plural elder model under the leadership of former pastor Bill Davis.
After Pastor Davis resigned the pastorate due to health concerns, the remaining two elders, Jerry Greene and Lindell Bishop, took over the regular preaching duties along with two other men in the church.
In October of 2017, another elder, Joel Hunt, was ordained to the gospel ministry.
Today, the church is led by these three men, who alternate preaching and teaching responsibilities.
